Case study / Custom WooCommerce plugin

Floristry By Rose

A bespoke WooCommerce product customiser built for a Birmingham florist's made-to-order arrangements. Customers pick colours, sizes, flowers and add-ons and watch the price update live. Rose manages all of it herself, without a developer on speed dial.

01

The challenge

Rose sells highly customisable products: funeral tributes, bouquets, wreaths and sports-themed pieces, each with choices of colour, size, flowers, add-ons and personalised text. Standard WooCommerce variable products fall over here. The combinations run into the thousands , and modelling them as variations is unmanageable.

Before the build, that meant quote requests: a customer enquires, Rose replies, they go back and forth on options and price, and somewhere in that exchange a sale quietly dies. The manual process was costing orders and eating her week.

And the second requirement was just as firm as the first: after launch, Rose runs this herself . New products, new colours, new prices, no developer dependency.

Thousands of combinations, one non-technical owner, zero tolerance for quote ping-pong.

The solution

A standalone custom plugin. The customiser is a proper WordPress plugin, not code buried in a theme or page builder. It works independently of Elementor and survives future redesigns intact. Rose can change how the site looks without losing how the shop works.

Dynamic pricing in plain English. The size sets the base price. Every other choice adds on top. The customer watches the total update live as they build their arrangement, so there is never a surprise at checkout and never an email asking what something costs.

Choices that travel the whole journey. Every customisation the customer picks is carried into the cart, through checkout, onto the order and into the confirmation emails. Rose opens an order and sees exactly what to make.

A quote-request fallback. Some pieces are too bespoke to price automatically, and the plugin knows it. Products can switch to a quote button instead of a price, so the truly custom work still has a clear route in.

The design system

Brand colours run through CSS variables, so the whole store restyles from one place. Colour swatches, pill-style size buttons, styled dropdowns and add-on cards all come from one component set, matched to Rose’s brand rather than a theme default.

Alongside the customiser sits a library of more than twenty custom Elementor widgets : home product displays, category sidebars, a contact enquiry form with file upload, and more. The plugin is the headline, but the widget library is what makes the whole site cohere.

The outcome

Customers now build and buy bespoke arrangements without a single email. The price is always on screen, the choices arrive on the order exactly as picked, and the quote back-and-forth is reserved for the genuinely one-of-a-kind pieces.

And the handoff held: Rose adds new products and customisation options herself in minutes , from a tabbed admin screen designed for her, not for a developer. That is what a good custom build looks like a year later: quietly working, fully owned by the client.

If your product needs configuring, your theme cannot do this out of the box. A custom plugin can.
